Spring Clean Your Social Media for a Fresh Start

We all know how great it feels to spring clean our homes, so why neglect our digital lives? Spring offers the perfect opportunity to welcome the new season with a fresh start – not just for your home, but for your digital presence too! LYT Marketing has embraced its own spring cleaning with a rebrand on the way and new services launching. We’re also refreshing our social content! Join us as we dive into how we’re giving ourselves a little refresh this season.

You might feel like your digital presence or social media profiles don’t need a refresh, but as algorithms change and your business evolves, decluttering and updating your social media can improve engagement, mental clarity, and brand alignment. We’ll focus on overall profiles first, then dive into strategic internal updates as the season continues.

Audit Your Profiles

Chances are, it’s been a while since you checked some of the details in your social accounts. Start your spring refresh by reviewing all your profiles and updating your bios. Ensure all information is current, and if you’re feeling spontaneous, tweak the wording to better reflect where your business is heading.

Everyone loves a fresh profile picture and cover photo, as long as they stay on-brand. If you want to be strategic, schedule a quarterly refresh for these visuals. Before making changes, ask yourself: Are they aligned with my brand and personal growth?

Apply this process to your website too. Check for missing or outdated links, incorrect contact information, or incomplete details in your contact form. These quick updates can make a big difference.

Consistency across platforms and your website reinforces a cohesive brand look for your audience.

Refresh Your Content Strategy

With a spring refresh comes a content refresh! Now is the perfect time to analyze past posts and note what performed well, what fell flat, what your audience wants to see more of, and what you enjoy posting. If you use content pillars, refine them to better reflect your current interests, business goals, and audience needs.

If you follow a posting schedule, review it to ensure it aligns with engagement trends.

Clean Up Your Followers and Following Lists

We all get messages from bots or spam accounts, but how often do we check who follows us – and who we’re following? Unfollow inactive or irrelevant accounts that no longer serve your interests. Remove ghost followers or spam accounts to improve engagement metrics, and start engaging with active followers! Identify your top-engaged audience members and show them some love in return.

Social media is, at its core, social. It’s crucial for both the algorithm and your audience to see that you’re interacting, supporting, and genuinely interested in their content. Engaging with followers and rekindling connections can lead to meaningful relationships both online and offline.

Tidy Up Your Privacy and Security Settings

When was the last time you adjusted your privacy settings? If you’re like me, it was 2015… (I know, I know.)

Take time to review your privacy settings to ensure you’re sharing content with the right and safe audience. This is especially important if you have a personal brand, but it applies to any business as well.

Update your passwords and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for extra security. It may add one more step to the login process, but 2FA has saved my account from hackers multiple times. (Reminder to myself to change my passwords regularly – you’re not alone!)

Lastly, check third-party app permissions. Remove any apps that no longer serve a purpose. I recently discovered that my Facebook account still had access to over 25+ games from 2007 that I no longer use. Reviewing my privacy settings and discontinuing these permissions felt like an extra layer of security.

Declutter Your Inbox and Notifications

I’m a firm believer in the “Inbox Zero” method – visual clutter creates mental clutter. Now is the perfect time to go through your inbox, notifications, and messages. Respond to anything that needs attention, organize emails into folders, and turn off distracting notifications. Unsubscribe from unnecessary email lists and notifications.

Spring cleaning your social media also includes evaluating your own usage. Setting boundaries to avoid digital overwhelm is key, especially when you work in the digital space.

Plan for Fresh, Engaging Content

Do you have a folder of inspiration waiting to come to life? Now is the time to experiment. Batch-create graphics, captions, or videos to stay ahead of the game and prevent digital burnout.

Try new formats like reels, carousels, or live sessions. Ask your audience what they’d like to see, research what users are searching for on Google, and plan your email marketing or blog posts accordingly. We love using AnswerThePublic.com for content research like this!
