As Shopify puts it, “branding is the process of establishing a unique identity for your company, while marketing is the process of communicating that identity in order to sell.” You need both, but branding almost always needs to come first!

Marketing without a solid brand foundation is like building on sand. If your visual identity is inconsistent, your messaging is unclear, or your website doesn’t reflect who you actually are — no amount of ad spend or social media posting will fix that.
